Favorites Fridays: The Brush Guard

Happy Friday to you! I can't believe that I haven't written about this amazing product sooner. Last summer I was invited to attend the Make Up For Ever Professional Event, which was amazing. On the last day, we received The Brush Guard for our makeup brushes and immediately put them to the test.

Everyone knows that you should wash your makeup brushes at least once a week to rid the old makeup, skin cells, dust, bacteria, germs, oils, and dirt. The Brush Guard is a small sleeve that fits over your makeup brushes and allows your brushes to dry bristle-down so that the water drips out and not in. The Brush Guard also shapes your brushes as they dry. You should NEVER leave your brushes out to dry standing up in a glass with the brush pointing to the sky without a Brush Guard because the water can seep in and loosen the glue.

The Brush Guard isn't just for washing your makeup brushes, it can also make traveling with your brushes easier. With The Brush Guard, pack your brushes in your purse, kit or suitcase and feel confident that your brushes will not be damaged or harmed.

The Beauty of Coupling Permanent Makeup & Traditional Makeup: It All Started With A Mascara

I remember, as a little girl, watching my mother get dolled up at her vanity each day. I would watch her as the beautiful bright lights surrounded her mirror and dream of the day I would be allowed to do my own makeup. I remember her giving me my very first Maybelline mascara; I must have been 13 years old. With excitement, I brought it with me everywhere I went. After that, I knew I had a love for all things beauty: makeup, hair, fashion, etc...

Club 33

our (good looking) group ready for a delicious meal
I am guessing that most people reading this blog have never heard of Club 33. Club 33 is an exclusive club at Disneyland and is one of the hardest private clubs to get into in the world. You MUST know a member of the club and have them make the reservation for you months in advance. It is so difficult to become a member that when Disney/ABC and Ginnifer Goodwin were negotiating her contract to play Snow White in Once Upon A Time, that she tried to get a Club 33 membership written into her contract but the people at high up at Disney turned her down flat.

Club 33 was originally Walt Disney's idea so that Disney executives and partnering companies' executive could hold business dinners and wine and dine their potential clients. It was designed to be a place with the finest food and service.

Originally, there were microphones strategically placed inside of the chandeliers so that servers could listen for a someone mentioning that they wanted some water, a new napkin or something else. The server would then appear and "magically" bring exactly what the person said that the needed. Because of the sensitive nature of a lot of the business conversations happening in the Club, the microphones were never in use.

In mid-November I have the privilege of celebrating my daughters birthday, as well as my upcoming birthday (which is in December). I must say, it was out of this world and an incredible treat.

Everything from the decor to the art on the walls and the bathrooms was exquisite. The food was on another level though. We dined on a six course meal that was filled with amazing flavors and wonderful wine pairings. My son-in-law and I enjoyed lamb chops, while my daughter and our guests enjoyed the Chateaubriand steak.

After our fifth course, we were surprised with a
beautiful and extra delicious birthday dessert with a candle to make a wish. The dessert was a gorgeous chocolate mousse that was rich and creamy. After our birthday dessert came our sixth course, which was another dessert that was also delicious.

I am so thankful that I was able to enjoy such an incredible meal with my family and friends to celebrate the birth of my daughter (and my birth as well).

Club 33 is located in Disneyland in New Orleans Square right next to the Blue Bayou. If you blink you might miss the private entrance! Enjoy our photos from the evening!

Here are some photos of our wonderful evening at Club 33.

Favorites Fridays: LUSH - Charity Pot

Who doesn't love lotion? Who doesn't love helping others? What if buying a lotion meant helping others at the same time? LUSH's Charity Pot is your answer.

This is a lotion that I encourage you to try and purchase if you wish to have soft skin to compliment your soft heart.

Did you catch last week's Favorite? It was another amazing product from LUSH called Dark Angels!

11.18.2013

Favorites Fridays: LUSH - Dark Angels Fresh Facial Cleanser

I must admit, I have known about LUSH stores and seen them around, but I have never walked in simply because of the smell - it is a bit overwhelming. Last week, my family and I were out shopping and came across a LUSH store. My daughter ran in because she loves all of their products and encouraged me to come in with her. The location I went to did not have an overwhelming smell and that made me happy. The gal helping us was very sweet and very informative. She really knew what she was talking about - that was a good sign.

I was able to test a few different scrubs and moisturizers on my hands in the store and fell in love with one cleanser: Dark Angels.

Dark Angels is a velvety black sugar cleanser that is handmade with all natural ingredients. Black sugar and charcoal gently exfoliate and absorb excess oils to brighten dull and oily acne-prone skin with a clean matte finish.

After using it, my skin (as well as my daughter's skin) felt so smooth and calm. Dark Angels can be used on sensitive and irritable skin as antimicrobial rhassoul mud deep cleanses to heap prevent breakouts while vitamin rich cold-pressed organic avocado oil nourishes the skin to leave it hydrated and soft. Do you want to see how LUSH makes Dark Angels? Click here!

There are two stores that I have been to now that do not have an overwhelming smell:
  • Union Square (San Francisco location) (Ask for Lizzie - she helped my daughter & was very sweet)
  • Fashion Island (Newport Beach location)

TIP: Try using the Dark Angels with the Neutrogena Wave for an even better experience!

Disneyland - The Happiest Place On Earth!

Hey there! My name is Krysten, and I am Athena Karsant's daughter. I asked her if I could be a guest blogger and give you some fun tips for going to my favorite place in the world: Disneyland. You might be thinking, "What does Disneyland have to do with beauty or permanent makeup?" and I would say, "Very little." However, my mom has had many clients in her chair speak of their upcoming trip to the Happiest Place on Earth and within seconds mom calls me asking for tips. So, it makes sense to post this for her clients and the world to see.

I am the biggest Disney freak around. Some even say I am an addict. I blame my parents, because they took me for the first time when I was just 6 weeks old. You can basically say they created a Disneyland Monster! Since I was born, I have celebrated many birthdays, anniversaries and different occasions at the Happiest Place On Earth. My husband even proposed underneath the castle in 2010. This blog will feature a few tips and tricks to make sure you have the best time possible.

  1. The first thing you need to do is head straight to California Adventure (if you have a ticket for that park too.) California Adventure has one of the coolest and newest lands: Cars Land. Cars Land has only been open since the summer of 2012, and the lines are still very long. Head into the park and immediately grab a FAST PASS for Radiator Springs Racers! They are all gone for the day by mid-morning, and the line can be 2 - 3 hours long on a busy day.
  2. Depending on how many days you will be enjoying both parks, you should allow one evening for Disneyland's Fantasmic show in front of Pirate's Lair (FORMERLY Tom Sawyer Island) and another evening for California Adventure's World Of Color. For World of Color you will need a FastPass to reserve a spot to watch it! Ask someone where to get a FASTPASS to ensure a spot for the show (standing only).
  3. UPDATE: Go see the ALADDIN musical at California Adventure! It is about 45 minutes long, hysterical and nice and cool inside. The Genie will steal the show! Fortunately & Unfortunately this show is gone but they have a brand new show about FROZEN. It's a broadway style performance that will entertain everyone of all ages!
  4. Are you a coffee drinker? Starbucks is now at California Adventure and on Main Street USA! You can also use your Starbucks GOLD card for stars!
  5. If you would like to take a ride on the Monorail, ask a castmember to sit in the front car with the captain.
  6. The parade is always a blast! Check your map/schedule for parade times.
  7. Who doesn't love seeing Minnie, Mickey and all their pals? The problem is, you typically have to wait in a long line to get a hug and a photo. The best place to see a handful of characters is at the character breakfast at Plaza Inn which is located at the end of Main Street USA. Call ahead to make a reservation and enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast with all your favorite Disney friends.
  8. At Disneyland, in Tomorrowland, the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is a fun ride and game.  Make sure that when you are exiting you remember to stop at the computer screens to your left so you can EMAIL the ride photo to yourself for free.
  9. Make sure you get a FASTPASS for popular Disneyland rides like Indiana Jones and Space Mountain! You shouldn't have super long waits for Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion or It's a Small World and Jungle Cruise, so just walk right up to these whenever you are near by.
  10. Make sure you get a FASTPASS for popular California Adventure rides like: Soarin' Over California, Goofy's Flight School, Tower of Terror and California Screamin!
  11. YOU CAN BRING FOOD IN! Remember to bring snacks and water bottles. You are allowed to bring your own food to enjoy. They also have a filtered water fountain at the Mexican Restaurant (Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante) in Frontierland.
  12. UPDATE: Need a rest? Check out Bill Hill and the Hillbillies in Disneyland. The location has changed a few times this summer so be sure to ask someone where they are performing. They are a riot and very talented! (Sadly, this show will be ending January 6th.) Unfortunately this show is gone but to see what you missed out on visit Athena's blog about The Billys and their final performance!
  13. Fool Mother Nature! - Of course having permanent makeup (eyeliner, lips, eyebrows) helps at theme parks, water parks etc. Hop on Splash Mountain or Grizzly Rapids and don't worry about your brows washing off or your eyeliner smearing! Look FABULOUS all day long and don't think twice about your makeup running.
  14. Are you celebrating an anniversary, a birthday or something else? Ask a castmember for a Disney Button!
  15. HAVE FUN! Make sure you drink enough water, take breaks when you need to and never hesitate to ask a cast member for help and guidance. They are there to assist you and make your day magical!
I hope these tips will help you get the most out of your day at the Happiest Place on Earth! Take your camera - you never know who you will see there!

Thanks mom for letting me be a guest blogger! Those who know me aren't surprised by the topic and many of my Disney pals probably know most of this information. I hope that some of you learned something new!

Here are some great Disney related books for your reading enjoyment. We have been very fortunate to meet three of these four authors and one of them is a very dear friend. Click on the book title to be linked to Amazon to purchase these fabulous books.

My husband took me on a tour of the Walt Disney Studios & we got

My favorite part of the archives was getting to hold one of
Walt Disney's Oscars. It was beyond incredible & very heavy!

Favorite's Fridays - Teavana

You know I love my coffee or a delicious green drink in the morning. But move over... cause there is a new favorite drink in town: Teavana.
Teavana is a store that is dedicated to selling fresh, high quality, loose leaf teas. They have well over 50 different teas and so many different combinations to create for you. First, they lure you in with a sample... a very delicious sample! Then they welcome you in to smell and taste other teas they have ready for you. By the third sample I knew I was hooked.
When we got home, I asked my daughter to make some for all of us to try. I was so anxious to wait 3 minutes for it to brew that my daughter and I started picking through the loose leaf tea and picking out the dried fruit to eat; the dried pineapple is out of this world! The teas are also very pretty to look at and have a wonderful fragrance.

I can't really tell you how much I spent on tea, but we did buy a lot. I also purchased a very easy-to-use hot tea maker for both houses as well as their german rock sugar. Normally I would say "Eh! I will use my own sugar." However, this time I could taste the difference - or lack there of. The german rock sugar they have has no flavor. When you add it to your coffee or tea it simply brings out the best qualities and flavors of the tea. I love that all of the teas can be made hot or cold depending on the weather or your mood. Look up the Teavana nearest to you and go in for a few samples. You can even buy an iced tea or hot tea that they will make for you right there in the store.

Tip - If you have a Starbucks card or are a gold card member with Starbucks, you can use your card to earn stars towards your free drink. Teavana is owned by Starbucks.
Here are my absolute favorites:
    - Blueberry Bliss and Pineapple Kona Pop (caffeine free)
    - Strawberry Champange with Peach Tranquility
    - The Chai Chai mix
I recommend you purchase the teas individually and not mixed so that you can create your own combinations like:
    - Pineapple Kona Pop and Peach Tranquility (caffeine free)
I hope you enjoy this week's favorite - Cheers!

Danny Elfman Concert

I must say, I have been to many, many concerts in my lifetime. I have seen the great Jimi Hendrix, Queen, Areatha Franklin, Janis Joplin, The Temptations, The Rolling Stones and more. This year alone, we saw Johnny Mathis, John Mayer, Fun!, Tegan and Sara, The Moody Blues, Tony Bennett, John Secada, Phillip Phillps, and Muse (there are probably some I have forgotten to mention). This past week I was so very fortunate to get to spend a night hearing the music of Danny Elfman. It was probably my favorite show all year long and definitely one of my favorites of all time.

The music featured in the concert was featuring Danny Elfman's music from Tim Burton's incredible films and was performed by the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra and The Page LA Choir. Originally it was a one night only performance scheduled for Halloween night and due to the fact that it sold out so quickly they added two more nights.

I attended the show with my daughter, her husband and two of their sweet friends, Jessica and Rob. I must confess, when my daughter asked if I wanted to go, I said yes but didn't really know who Danny Elfman was by name. I knew of his work, of course, and I knew his name but did not put the two together. After the show started I was mesmerized by the incredible sounds of the symphony orchestra and choir as they performed different pieces from Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Big Fish, Planet of the Apes, Frankenweenie, Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow, Mars Attacks, Batman & Batman Returns, Dark Shadows, Edward Scissorhands, Alice In Wonderland and, of course, The Nightmare Before Christmas. The music was accompanied by the artwork of Tim Burton, as well as memorable scenes and clips from the different films.

Towards the end of the night, for the showcasing of The Nightmare Before Christmas music, Danny Elfman came out on stage and performed some of the songs from that film. He was the singing voice of Jack (the Pumpkin King) in the movie. Every single person in the audience was mesmerized by his voice, his enthusiasm, his facial expressions, and the fact that it was his first time performing in 18 years. He was so incredible... words can never fully describe how incredible he was!

I can only hope that Danny Elfman enjoyed performing so much that he continues to perform again and again so that I, along with many others, can enjoy seeing him live again.

Should you ever get the chance to see him, please do!

Favorite's Fridays - Click N' Curl

I think by now you might know that I love good hair gadgets (i.e. Curl Secret, T3 Rollers, etc.). I just received these amazing Click N' Curl roller brushes, and, I must say, I really love them. I have many, many regular roll brushes that I use to set my hair in the morning. I leave the brushes in until my hair cools because of my curly, frizzy hair. If your hair is allowed to fully cool, your style will set and last longer. Then, while they are cooling I have time to do my makeup, make some espresso, a green drink or make a few phone calls.

Over the years, I have had many brush handles break. Sometimes, handles can get in the way of rolling other brushes which is why the Click N' Curl brushes are so amazing.

I bought the medium brushes for my hair. These brushes are fairly easy to use. You simply use the brush normally, and, once you roll your hair onto the brush, you "click" the brush handle and the handle comes off... just like all of my broken brushes!

The are travel friendly because they are small and light in weight. I recommend these to anyone who roll brushes their hair! You can purchase them on their website.

Favorite's Fridays - Go Greek Yogurt

OPA! This week my Favorite's Fridays post is DELICIOUS! A small Greek yogurt shop opened next  door to my office in Beverly Hills, and I couldn't be happier.

Go Greek Yogurt just opened this month, and I have been at least twice a day while in town. Their yogurt is freshly made in Greece and then flown to Beverly Hills. After that, it's topped with organic fruits, nuts, and tasty goodies.

My absolute favorite treat is the 2% Greek yogurt topped with rose petals, chopped almonds and walnuts. It reminds me of my father, who was an incredible chef and made something similar to this when I was a kid.

I LOVE GO GREEK YOGURT!
The first time I went to Go Greek Yogurt, I was so excited that they served the yogurt in a traditional Terra Cotta pot (made in Greece). This is how yogurt is still served in Crete. Not only are these Terra Cotta pots biodegradable, but they are reusable, too!

So far, I have tasted the black cherry, strawberry, carrots and rose petal toppings. While they are all incredible, I just can't seem to order anything but my usual rose petals.

If you are ever in the Beverly Hills area, or are coming to my office for a complimentary consultation or procedure, stop in and order something to go. Be sure to ask for a sample if you like - everyone there is incredibly friendly. You will enjoy every single bite of your delicious, healthy, organic Greek yogurt!

Favorite's Fridays - Breast Cancers Survivors

This week my favorites fridays post is not a beauty product. Instead my favorites fridays post is about a beautiful group of strong women. This is a large group of women, and I could never give an exact estimate of how many women, for it is far to big to comprehend. This week, I dedicate my favorites fridays blog to every single women who has faced breast cancer.

I have so many clients who are breast cancer survivors. Twenty-five years ago, when I started my business, the women who came to me for areola repigmentation, areola reconstruction or for breast surgery scars were in their forties, fifties and sixties. Now, I am receiving more and more clients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer who are in their twenties and thirties, and it breaks my heart.

I just received some news from a client of mine who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. It saddens me that breast cancer is taking more and more women. We must fight this. We must fight for all the women who can't fight anymore. Get educated about breast cancer. Get checked out, and don't wait until you are in your forties to do it.

This month I want to celebrate all of the women who are survivors. To celebrate these amazing women, I will donate a portion of every new areola repigmentation, areola reconstruction or breast surgical scar procedure to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Below I have posted a few videos of my clients who are breast cancer survivors. I am posting these videos to celebrate them - not for marketing. I believe in them. I love them. They are to be celebrated this October and all year long.

Favorites Fridays: It's A 10! Light

Let me start off by saying that I love getting my hair done! But I hate when they put what feels like pounds of product in my freshly cleaned hair and then I leave with oily looking/ feeling locks! I know it's necessary to add some heat protectant products to protect your hair, but with the leave in conditioner, hair spray, shine, moose etc - it's just too much!

I recently found a wonderful, LIGHT leave in hair product. It's called: It's A 10 Light. This fabulous product is filled with acai, chamomile, sunflower seed, hydrolyzed rice protein and silk. It protects against heat damage and keeps your hair color from fading! It also encourages volume, shine, strengthens hair and detangles all in one!

It's A 10! Light comes in a spray bottle, but I find it best to spray it in your hand and then evenly distribute to your hair.

Most of the time leave-in conditioners are too heavy and leave a minor residue causing your hair to look and feel dirty or oily - but not this one! Give it a try! It just may be a "10" for you!

You can purchase it on Amazon

Favorite's Fridays: Curl Secret by Conair

Happy Friday! This beauty product is AMAZING! Late one night I was flipping channels and saw an infomercial - you know how those infomercials suck you in and make you buy their products! Well, I was sucked in and bought the Curl Secret by Conair, and, I must say, it was money well spent! I found it at ULTA for a better price than ordering it through the infomercial or online.

The Curl Secret is an easy way to create shiny beautiful curls. It's easy! It's fast! It's painless, and it's too fabulous for words! It doesn't take long to heat up the Curl Secret, and it stays cool to the touch which makes it simple to use. My daughter tried it out first - she has really long and really thick hair. She timed herself and it took her about 55 minutes from start to finish. (she started with dry hair).

Do you want to see one in action? Watch this video!
(start at 8:00 minutes)

Recently I have purchased amazing hot curlers (which I still use and love), hair curlers and straighteners but the Curl Secret is probably my favorite for a few reasons:

  1. I can watch my Netflix on my iPad while doing my hair, because the Curl Secret isn't noisy like a blow dryer.
  2. I can't burn myself with it (like I do with my hot curling wand).
  3. It makes my curls even all around.
  4. It's easy and fun to use. (really!)
  5. It does what it says it will do!
  6. It works with any type of hair: curly, straight, wavy etc.

My recommendations:

Wash your hair the night before, and let it air dry. In the morning allow a good solid 30 minutes to curl hair (depending on thickness and length). Your hair must be dry before using the Curl Secret.

OR

Wash your hair, blow dry to remove all moisture. Curl as directed! Allow a good solid 30 minutes to curl hair (depending on thickness and length). Your hair must be dry before using the Curl Secret.

ENJOY!

MY 100TH BLOG

Yipppee! A little over a year ago, I started this blog with "Stay Cool as a Cucumber this Summer" and it's been a rollercoaster ride ever since. I have blogged about some of my favorite beauty products, (Beauty Blender & Cover Girl Mascara), adventures, (Sailing, Takes Me Away... & Pageant Of The Masters ), my business (Cosmetic  & Corrective Tattooing & The Beauty Of My Business) and more!

My Fooling Mother Nature blog is being read all over the world and I think that is very exciting! It's incredible what can be done with the internet, with viewers in France, Greece, UK, Sweeden, Poland, China and many more countries.

To celebrate my 100th blog, I have decided to make a "GREATEST HITS" with links to the best of the best blogs. These blogs have had the most views with the most feedback and response. (see below)

Many of these blog ideas have sparked from discussions that I have had with you in both of my offices. Thank you for the ideas, conversations and your confidence in my work, knowledge and friendship.

Thank you for making this blog so much fun and exciting for me. I believe that sharing good information is very important! Please share informative information with others - you never know how much you are really helping someone!

Cheers!
